Player Management


The Player Management section is where you build and maintain your player roster. This guide covers everything you need to know about managing players in PlayerPing.


Accessing Player Management


Navigate to Players from the main menu or click "Manage Players" from the dashboard.


Adding Individual Players


Basic Information


To add a new player:


  • Scroll to the "Add New Player" form
  • Fill in the required fields:
  • Full Name (required) - The player's full name
  • Email (optional) - Player's email address for email notifications
  • Phone Number (required) - Include country code (e.g., +64 for New Zealand)
  • Gender (required) - Select Male or Female
  • Sport (required) - Choose from the dropdown (Soccer, Basketball, Tennis, etc.)
  • Club (optional) - Select an existing club or create a new one

  • Click "Add Player"

Phone Number Format


Phone numbers should include the country code:

  • +1 - United States/Canada
  • +44 - United Kingdom
  • +61 - Australia
  • +64 - New Zealand
  • +91 - India
  • +81 - Japan
  • +49 - Germany
  • +33 - France

The system will automatically format the number when you save.


Club Assignment


Assigning players to clubs allows you to:

  • Broadcast invitations to all club members
  • Organize players by club
  • Filter events by club

You can create a new club directly from the player form by clicking "+ New Club". See the Clubs guide for more information.


Editing Players


Edit Existing Player


  • Find the player in the player list
  • Click the pencil icon (āœļø) next to their name
  • The form will populate with their current information
  • Make your changes
  • Click "Update Player"

Cancel Editing


Click the X button or "Cancel" button to exit edit mode without saving changes.


Deleting Players


  • Find the player in the player list
  • Click the trash icon (šŸ—‘ļø) next to their name
  • Confirm the deletion in the popup dialog

Note: Deleting a player will also remove all their responses to events, but past ratings will be preserved for historical records.


Bulk Importing Players


PlayerPing offers two methods for bulk importing players:


Method 1: Native Contact Picker (Android)


If you're using an Android device:


  • Click "Import Players" button
  • Set default values:
  • Default Gender (applied to all imported contacts)
  • Default Sport (applied to all imported contacts)
  • Default Club (optional, applied to all imported contacts)
  • Click "Select from Contacts"
  • Select multiple contacts from your device's contact list
  • Review and edit the imported contacts
  • Click "Import [X] Players"

The system will automatically extract names, phone numbers, and emails from your contacts.


Method 2: Paste Contact List


For any device:


  • Click "Import Players" button
  • Set default values (Gender, Sport, Club)
  • Click "Paste Contact List"
  • Paste your contact list in the text area

Supported formats:

John Doe 021 123 456

Jane Smith, +64 22 987 654

Mike Johnson +1 555 123 4567

Sarah Williams (sarah@example.com) 021 234 567


  • Click "Parse Contacts"
  • Review and edit the parsed contacts
  • Click "Import [X] Players"

Bulk Editing During Import


While reviewing imported contacts, you can:


  • Bulk Update All: Use the bulk update controls at the top to change Gender, Sport, or Club for all contacts at once
  • Individual Editing: Edit each contact's details individually in the table
  • Remove Contacts: Edit the list before importing

Import Tips


  • Ensure contacts have at least a name and phone number
  • The system will attempt to parse phone numbers in various formats
  • Email addresses are optional but recommended
  • You can set default values before importing to speed up the process

Filtering Players


Alphabet Filter


Use the alphabet filter buttons to quickly find players:


  • All - Show all players
  • A-C, D-F, G-I, etc. - Filter by first letter of name

The filter shows how many players match: "X of Y Registered"


Understanding Player Information


Player List Display


Each player in the list shows:

  • Name - Player's full name
  • Phone - Phone number with country code
  • Email - Email address (if provided, hidden on mobile)
  • Sport - Sport they play (colored badge)
  • Club - Club name (if assigned, gray badge)
  • Gender - M or F indicator
  • Rating - Star rating and count (if rated)

Player Ratings


Players may display:

  • ⭐ Average Stars - Average rating from 1-5 stars
  • (X) - Number of ratings received

Best Practices


Organizing Your Roster


  • Use Clubs: Assign players to clubs for easier organization and broadcasting
  • Complete Information: Add email addresses when possible for better notification delivery
  • Consistent Naming: Use consistent name formats (e.g., "John Doe" vs "Johnny Doe")
  • Regular Updates: Keep phone numbers and emails up to date

Importing Large Lists


  • Set default Gender and Sport before importing
  • Use the native contact picker on Android for fastest import
  • Review imported contacts before finalizing
  • Use bulk update features to quickly assign clubs

Phone Number Management


  • Always include country codes
  • Use international format (+[country code][number])
  • Remove leading zeros when adding country codes
  • The system handles various formats automatically

Troubleshooting


Player Not Appearing


  • Check if alphabet filter is active
  • Verify the player was saved successfully
  • Refresh the page

Import Issues


  • Ensure contacts have valid names and phone numbers
  • Check that default values are set correctly
  • Verify phone number formats are recognizable

Editing Problems


  • Make sure you're clicking the edit icon, not delete
  • Check that all required fields are filled
  • Verify phone number includes country code
